Disciples Against Racism

We are educating ourselves and others so we can promote and participate in actions which will ultimately achieve racial justice in our community and beyond.

OUR VISION

Recognizing the richness of God’s creation, we live out God’s love with justice for everyone across all cultures and faiths.

OUR MISSION

Equip disciples to:

• Identify injustice

• Prioritize and implement actions to eliminate unjust conditions

• Seek justice with open ears and hearts, through loving our neighbors

OUR HISTORY

Disciples Against Racism was started at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church of Rock Hill by one of our pastors following the murder of George Floyd in the spring of 2020. We met weekly online to discuss news articles related to issues of racism. We took the 21-Day Racial Equity Challenge in June of 2020 offered by Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Over the past 5 years we have focused on educating ourselves through book studies, documentaries and movies, guest speakers, individual and group involvement with community agencies, and building relationships beyond our White space. We continue to meet monthly during the fall, winter, and spring.

Our efforts and some results have included members joining the Rock Hill Branch of the NAACP; the formation of the Community Table along with St. Mary Catholic Church, and the Beloved Community Seekers; formation of the Community Remembrance Project Coalition with guidance from the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama. These are just some results.

We are a group committed to the goal of eradicating racism in our community.

We’d love to see you at our next gathering!
